The power of generation in India is heavily dependent on the use of high ash bituminous coal. Use of lignite is quite limited in India. Hence the coal ash generated is predominantly is of Class C.
The Fly Ash generation has increased from about 84 Mn tonnes in 2000-01 to 191 Mn tonnes in 2014-15 showing a growth of nearly 2.3 times. The graph below show us the generation of Coal Ash over the years
